Exhibition of calligraphy “Shriftologiya”, Mystetsky Arsenal
The project “Shriftologia” at the Book Arsenal is represented by two blocks: “Alchemy of Calligraphy” and “Geography of Handwriting of Ukraine”.
I was very inspired by the idea of the Lopukhiny sisters and the Art and I calligraphy school. The task of the project “Geography of Handwriting” is to make modern interpretations of historical writing styles of different regions of Ukraine. When you study historical books, you realize how different writing is in each region.
As a historical example of my work, I took L. Baranovich’s Service Book, 1665, written in the Chernihiv region. I was inspired by his brutal viaz with double lines.
The text is an excerpt from M. Kotsyubynsky’s novel “Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors”, i.e. Kotsyubynsky’s life is closely connected with Chernihiv.
In this passage human life is compared to the fleeting flowering of cherries:
“What is our life?” Like a sparkle in the sky, like a cherry blossom… fleeting and premature ”
There is something in common with Japanese philosophy. The image of a blossoming sakura, which decorated the work, immediately comes to my mind.
In the Alchemy of Calligraphy block there two of my Roman Capitals works.
I want to write a lot more, but it doesn’t matter, because the wow effect is achieved only by live viewing of works.
So, let’s go to Arsenal! The exhibition will last until June 27, 2022.
